Do I need to book?
- Yes. All Railbikes must be booked online or by phone by 7pm the day before. During the summer months booking as far in advance as possible is recommended to avoid disappointment

Do trains use the line?
- No, trains officially ceased operating in 2012 and the line is now for railbiking only

Do you get a refund if you cancel?
- Cancellations due to weather are fully refunded All other cancellations must be submitted by email to gisborne@railbikes.nz. Cancellation fees are charged per person at the following rates: up to 48 hours prior to departure: 100%, up to 10 days prior to departure: 25%, more than 10 days prior to departure: Free. We strongly recommend that if you have a large booking travel insurance should be considered

How do I get to and from the Railbikes?
- If you have your own transport, there is ample parking at the railbike departure stations. If not, use the shuttle links in our website to arrange suitable pick up and drop offs

Is it safe?
- Riding the railbike is very safe. Because it has four wheels it is almost impossible to fall off

Is there a weight height and age restriction for any of the rides?
- The railbike is rated to carry 130kg per rider, there is no height restriction. Riders under 18 yrs must be accompanied by an adult. The minimum age for riders is 13 years old.

Is there someone to help me along the way?
- Yes. Railbikes travel generally as a group for safety and you will be accompanied by one of our tour guides

What equipment does the railbike have?
- Your railbike comes with lights for the tunnels, an emergency locator device, water canister, drinks holders, carry baskets (up to 5kg per rider), passing bell and an information canister containing emergency contact numbers and procedures

What happens if the ride is cancelled due to bad weather?
- If the ride is cancelled by The Gisborne Railbike Adventure due to bad weather all riders will get an email notification on the morning of the ride and will get a full refund.

What is the minimum age for the rides?
- The age restriction on all the rides is 13 years old. All riders from 13 to 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

What should I bring?
- Mobile Phone, your own water if you wish, lunch and snacks ( online orders from a menu if you choose) Sturdy footwear (not jandals), windbreaker, extra clothing to allow for adverse weather, sunblock, sunhat, camera, card or cash to purchase from stalls along the line

Will there be other bikes on the track at the same time?
- Yes, there will be other bikes on the track. All travelling in the same direction. If you need to you can easily lift your bike off the track to let someone go past. .
